Design Statement (20)

You will be writing a 1-2 paragraph artist statement describing your design approach. The artist statement should reflect your interests, approaches, and personality. Though not necessarily formal, it should be well written and carefully edited.

Cover Page (10)
Your cover page must includ your name and the date. It must be formatted in the same way as the rest of your images. Beyond that, any design or photography you use on the cover is optional.

New Piece and Zine (60)
Create a new piece to include in your portfolio. This might be a field assignment or another piece of your choice. Include your two page spread from the zine and your cover.

Annotations (10)
Annotations will contain title, media, date, and dimensions for each piece. These can be arranged either with the pieces themselves or as a separate page. If your work has any noteworthy feature or idea, you may wish to describe it briefly in the annotation.

Roughs (10)
Submit rough work for at least 2 of your pieces.

Questions (20)
Choose your favorite three pieces and answer the following questions for each:

1. Briefly describe the work visually: colour, composition, elements and principles.
2. What is your piece about?
3. What techniques and tools did you use? Be specific.
4. Why is this your favorite piece? Explain.
Portfolio (20)
Gather your work and format it so that it all faces the same way and uses a consistent size, framing, and position. Place your works in an order that you feel would impress a prospective school or jury.

Remember that the quality of your portfolio itself (consistency, clarity of design, layout)will either enhance or undermine your work according to how well-executed it is.

Summative Questions

For my summative project, I want to link Architecture with Graphic Design. I want to make a flip book of images. When you flip through my book at high speeds, you would see something like a cartoon video of a 3D walkthrough of one of my houses which I designed. On the back of those images, I want to make a collection of my works – Kind of like a portfolio. This would include sketches, floor plans, and some other stuff I have done for my portfolio.

1. What is your book about?
Architecture – I want to show a visual representative of my works in some kind of visual flip-book.

2. What makes your content choice specific to you?
I want to explore architecture and graphic design. I would like to be able to put it all my way, in my own unique way.

3. How are you going to represent your content?
I want to make some kind of visual walk-through of my work. Perhaps some kind of flip-book of a walk-through (Kind of like a Cartoon/Comic) of one of my houses I designed.

4. How do you intend to communicate the content?
It would be a flip-book and the user would flip through my work. One page you’d be flipping through one house and on the back would be another house.

5. What content editing methods will you use?
Photoshop will be a big one, but I will also be using Softplan to generate my 3Ds. InDesign will be used to layout all my pages.

6. What media are you using to make your imagery?
Photoshop and Softplan.

7. Why are you making this particular book?
I am making this book to show all my work in the smallest possible way.

8. How does your choice of content suit your skills, experience, and interest?
I want to get into Architecture and I feel this book will push my limits in architecture and my skills in Graphic Design.

9. Describe the style and look of your book and how it is linked to the content.
My book will be very colourful giving it visual appeal.
